SMALL BUSINESS
SPEAKER SERIES

A well-designed commercial space is so much more than a piece of art.

It’s a core business asset. The brand’s competitive advantage.

And it has a huge effect on the bottom line.

Right now, we want people to emerge from their homes and get back into local businesses. How do we get them to do that? Through the design of notable and experiential spaces.

Design has to move people. It has to be special! Not trendy or inauthentic, but designed in a way that people notice and love. To connect them to the brand’s story and inspire them to rally behind the vision.

I'm here to shift the thinking about how designers and entrepreneurs can work together for the good of the community.

To build understanding of why your space is your competitive advantage and a key part of building momentum for small businesses again.

To build movement, support, and inspiration for the business community by putting people back at the heart of commercial interior design.

Every small business has a story to tell and a distinctive vision for their customer experience.

I’m here to teach them how to turn that vision into a thoughtful space - one that stands out, builds community and loyalty, and takes their business to the next level.

Meet Kerri

Award-Winning Commercial Interior Designer, Mentor, Instructor, & Passionate Small Business Advocate

It hasn’t been easy for small businesses over the past couple of years – the pandemic has changed the game. Now more than ever, better experiences mean a better bottom line for small businesses.

And many who are concerned about small business – to help themselves, their associates, their community, or their network – are partnering together to create new opportunities for all.

Kerri Peyton has been supporting and celebrating small business for over 15 years, and is committed to sharing generously to help business owners understand and leverage their unique competitive advantage to stand out, stand strong, and be remembered. For many local businesses, that advantage is their space. Or, more specifically, how people feel in their space.

For Kerri, interior design isn’t just turning your space into a piece of art, it’s creative science that builds a brand experience design to infuse your true brand and story into your space. It’s prioritizing versatility in order to accommodate a changing world.

“Your space is a core brand asset. It needs original design outcomes that make sense for your business. That’s how you save and grow your livelihood. That’s how people will truly get behind your business.” - Kerri Peyton

Kerri helps entrepreneur-driven networks understand why design matters, and demystifies the process so business owners can start capitalizing on their best business asset – right now. Is she right for your audience?

OUR DESIGN DECLARATION

What do we mean by “Design for the love of people”?

Design for both beauty and the human experience: Spaces that Move People and Build Communities

sPACES ARE FOR PEOPLE

For people to notice and love your space, you first have to notice and love the people. Our design process puts your people at the centre, always. We infuse your authentic story into your space so people feel connected to the culture, the experience, and ultimately, the brand.

It’s a Brand Asset, Not Art

As designers, we’re the caretakers of your vision. It’s never about our own creative agenda or the latest trends. It’s about translating strategic insights into bold and unexpected gestures that tell your brand story. Trends lose interest, but purposeful creativity is timeless.

THE EXPERIENCE MATTERS

The team is the magic. When we’re on yours, we’re your advocates through the ups and downs so you never feel stuck or overwhelmed. We’ll find the right team for you through our curated network of industry professionals. A good experience matters as much as the outcome.

The TALKS THAT MOVE SMALL BUSINESS.

1

Your Standout Space

Use authentic storytelling and community-building to turn your space into your competitive advantage

Now more than ever, small business owners are looking for ways to create a branded and memorable retail, wellness, or hospitality space – setting them apart from competitors in a lasting and authentic way.

Even if they feel like everything’s already been done before. Even if they have no idea how their business stands out from the rest.

What if it wasn’t about trends, gimmicks, or going over-the-top?

In Your Standout Space, Kerri breaks down myths and delves into what really sets your business space apart – making it a true brand asset, not a piece of art.

For business owners, entrepreneurs, business associations, and community groups curious how to capitalize on their competitive advantage.

“This was incredible. In two hours you gave me more inspiration and knowledge than I received at a 2 day seminar intended to provide the same result.”

YOUR FIRST SPACE

Avoid common mistakes and find, design, and launch your dream retail space right the first time

What to know when choosing, setting up, and launching your dream retail, hospitality, or wellness space.

Even if you’re not sure you’re ready for this big step. Even if you’re not sure why design needs to happen.

Landlords, leasing agents, contractors, design, permits, and investments – there are a lot of decisions to make early on.

In Your 1st Space, Kerri identifies the important first steps – key business decisions about your timing, your team, and your space that are often rushed and regretted later – that you must take for a smooth new business launch.

For business owners, entrepreneurs, students, business associations, and community groups curious how to launch a space right the first time.

"Thank you for being honest, vulnerable and authentic. That type of event can be daunting but you were all amazing! Thank you for giving back to our community; they truly appreciate it and so do I."

-Celeste Thiesen, Organizer, 'Talking with Designers Live'

Is Kerri right for your audience?

“I can make a huge difference for small business owners – and I have

My impact comes from supporting the people who build our communities. Entrepreneurs who want to build their dreams – from when they have an exciting idea (but don’t know where to start), to when they fully achieve that vision.

Creating a standout business space can be a stressful undertaking - even without recent turbulent times for business owners. I think it’s time for a revolution in how people do and see this work. Business owners have a lot to focus on that’s not related to design and that’s where professional interior designers are a worthwhile investment. We can be your support system and guide you through the tougher logistical and creative decisions so you can focus on running your business.

To me, this starts with acting for the good of many… It starts with sharing generously.”

Design for the love of people.

Kerri speaks from experience.

Recognized by the Alberta Association of Architects, with degrees in Interior Design and Communications Studies, Kerri held positions at leading architectural and interior design firms in Calgary before launching Peyton Licensed Interior Design Inc. in 2012.

A firm that thrives on designing spaces for the love of people. Design that defines.

Her thought leadership led to two MASI design awards for office (2018) and retail (2021) design and she was invited to join a delegation of interior designers to represent Canada in Copenhagen in 2019.

Kerri is now moving the needle within the design profession and evolving the experience for small business by building a community of collaboration - through mentorship in the Alberta Association of Architects and the National Council for Interior Design Qualification, by contributing philanthropic design services to deserving community organizations, and through her instruction at the Interior Design degree program at Mount Royal University.

It’s through speaking, education, and mentoring that she can foster the belief that when we come together, everybody wins.
